Rather than paying him all the monies to do this, I figured I could replace the parts my self and take it to a shop for a vacuum and recharge, then maybe get them to do a sniffer test. The brushes are easily replaced by dropping in a new brush module, about $15 at your Toyota dealer. That will usually get another 80-100K miles out of the alternator.
