Most of the main World War II Normandy landing sites - that is, those that were key to the success of Operation Overlord - are about an hour's drive from Bayeux. Right behind Omaha Beach is the US Cemetery in Colleville sur Mer and towards west is the strategic Pointe du Hoc cliff.
